About Jigsaw Therapies

Gillian Bartlam

I have been a therapist and supervisor for 33 years, working in GP practices and privately. I have taught at UEA, Cambridge University, and West Suffolk College and Adult Education. I have run groups for sexually abused people and self-development. Until recently, I did counselling for The Ministry of Churches and The Plowright Medical Centre.

My approach is integrative. I try to find the most appropriate therapy for each individual. I am very interested in Process Work and Mindfulness, Focussing and Hypnotherapy, and Aromatherapy and Massage. I teach Meditation and am interested in a Holistic approach. I include Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and CBT where helpful. I would say I am a person-centred/ psychodynamic in my approach, but my interpretation is that I will help my clients find the best approach for them.

The Skin Group

Gillian is joined by Jill Brooks.

Devised by Anthony Storey, psychologist and counselling educator in the 80s and 90s, this group work formed the backbone of our three-year counselling training. As a way of understanding actions, thoughts and feelings, the group commits to enquiring into their subjective experiences within a disciplined contract. Each person strives to follow the contract by speaking honestly and to the best of their memory of what has occurred, without resorting to personal myths, beliefs, explanations, or anything that cannot be witnessed by every member of the group. As experiencing is shared with others, our unique perspective of the same words and actions, and the assumptions made about what these mean, are revealed. Witnessing ourselves and others within this shared environment enables us to gain insight into therapeutic processes.

The name ‘The Skin’ refers to the group’s commitment to respond only to what happens within the group for the duration of the group, as if surrounded by a skin. For more information click here.

The group may appeal to those interested in counselling, as well as counting toward CPD for trainee and qualified counsellors, psychologists, and psychotherapists.

Individual sessions are £25, with a reduced rate of £80 available for four sessions paid in advance. Newcomers are expected to commit to four sessions, after which we will provide a Certificate of Attendance. The Certificate of Attendance will be sent out to your email.

The group is held from 7 pm until 9 pm in Room 1 at Off the Record, Willow Lane House, Willow Ln, Norwich NR2 1EU. Tea and coffee will be provided. Please arrive a little early to start promptly at 7.
